The New Hall of Dailes Theatre, reconstructed by Pillar Contractor, celebrates its opening

On Friday, September 19, the New Hall at Dailes Theatre was ceremonially opened; its reconstruction and complex engineering redevelopment were carried out by our group company SIA “Pillar Contractor”. This was a long-awaited event, whose main beneficiaries will be the theatre’s audiences and actors.
As a result of the New Hall’s reconstruction, the viewing experience has been significantly improved – the increased slope of the hall ensures that the stage can be seen excellently from any seat, and spectators sitting in front will no longer block the view of the actors. The stage acoustics, ventilation system and seating arrangement have also been considerably improved.
Another significant benefit is the increased capacity of the hall. Whereas previously it had 150 seats, spectators will now have 340 seats. This has been achieved by expanding the space towards the rear and building a new balcony.
The actors have also benefited from the reconstruction – a spacious rehearsal hall has been created for preparing large-scale productions. The former Soviet-era premises on the 3rd and 4th floors have been combined into one modern space, comparable in size to the stage of the Large Hall. It will be suitable both for rehearsals and for smaller-format performances. New ventilation and fire safety systems have been installed in the renovated premises, and the engineering networks, which had not been modernized since the building was constructed in 1977, have also been completely replaced.
Jānis Lāčaunieks, Chairman of the Board of SIA “Pillar Contractor”, emphasizes:
“The reconstruction of the Dailes Theatre New Hall was a highly complex engineering project and required a high level of professionalism, as well as constructive cooperation from everyone involved in the construction process. We are pleased and proud of what has been accomplished, and of the fact that it was completed in a short time and in a spirit of mutual trust. Thank you to our cooperation partners and especially to the Dailes Theatre team.”
The authors of the renovation project are architects Reinis Liepiņš and Ilze Liepiņa, as well as the architectural firm “Sudraba Arhitektūra”. Construction work began in the summer of 2024, and the works were handed over on September 15, 2025. The project cost was 5.1 million euros including VAT, and a total of 2,500 m² was fully renovated.
With the renovated New Hall, Dailes Theatre gains a fully functional, modern space for both audiences and artists, and very soon it will open its doors to its first visitors.
